Don’t have an ID yet? Here’s how to get one.
Everyone on WorkSource verifies their identity once. That is what keeps the community real for both sides. If you do not have an accepted ID today, that is not a dead end: this page shows what works and how to get one.
WorkSource is free for everyone and never charges for verification or anything else. If anyone asks you to pay to get verified on WorkSource, it is a scam.
IDs our verification partner accepts
Verification is handled by our secure ID partner. Any of these current, unexpired documents works:
- A passport from the United States or any other country
- A U.S. state driver’s license
- A U.S. state identification card (a non-driver ID card)
- A U.S. permanent resident card (green card)
The document needs to be the physical original, current, and readable. Photos of photocopies or expired documents will not pass the scan.
Getting a state ID in North Carolina
If you do not have any of the documents above, the most common path is a North Carolina non-operator ID card. You do not need to drive to get one.
- Visit any NCDMV driver license office. Walk-ins are accepted and appointments can be scheduled online.
- Bring documents that prove who you are and where you live. A birth certificate plus your Social Security card is a standard combination, along with something showing your NC address such as a utility bill or lease.
- Ask for a non-operator identification card. The DMV charges a small fee, and some people qualify for a free ID card. Check the current fee and free-eligibility categories on the NCDMV site before you go.
- If you need a copy of your NC birth certificate, you can order one from NC Vital Records or your county register of deeds.

Outside North Carolina? Every state DMV issues a similar non-driver ID card. Search your state DMV site for "identification card" to find the closest office and the documents to bring.
Your account waits for you
An account that has not verified yet simply stays in a limited state. It is never deleted or rejected for not having an ID. Take the time you need to get a document, then come back and verify. Your profile will be right where you left it.
Can’t complete the scan?
If you have a document but the scan will not go through, or a camera scan is not workable for you, you can ask our team for a manual review from any verification screen while signed in.
